IHSG Opens Lower, Falls to 6,392 Within 14 Minutes of Trading

The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) began trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, with a weaker movement. Based on data displayed on the official Indonesia Stock Exchange website, the IHSG was recorded at 6,408.17 at the start of trading at 09.00 WIB.

The data was visible on the index chart with a time marker showing trading began at 09.00 WIB. The level of 6,408.17 was the IHSG’s position when today’s trading officially commenced.

The IHSG’s movement then showed pressure in the early minutes of trading. BEI data seen at around 09.02 WIB showed the index had moved down from its opening position.

At that data update, the IHSG stood at 6,392.738, or down 0.89 percent.

Thus, compared to the opening position of 6,408.17, the IHSG had corrected by approximately 15.43 points within the first few minutes of trading.

Pressure was not only visible on the IHSG. A number of indices displayed in the BEI trading data were also recorded as moving negatively at the start of Wednesday’s trading.

The LQ45 index, for example, stood at 629.757 and was recorded as down 0.20 percent. LQ45 is one of the main indices that attracts investor attention because it contains stocks with high liquidity and large market capitalisation.

Meanwhile, the IDX LQ45 Low Carbon Leader (IDX LQ45LCL) stood at 92.507 with a decline of 0.14 percent.

Data on the BEI screen also showed other indices in the red zone. IDX30 was recorded as down 0.14 percent, while IDX80 weakened by 0.33 percent.

This condition indicates that the pressure at the start of trading was not only occurring on the main IHSG index, but was also visible on a number of other leading stock indices.

At around 09.02 WIB, the IHSG’s position recorded at 6,392.738 showed a weakening of 0.89 percent.

When compared to the opening level of 6,408.17, the index had lost approximately 15.43 points. In percentage terms, the decline from the opening level was in the range of 0.24 percent.

However, the 0.89 percent decline figure listed on the BEI website represents the IHSG’s change against the previous trading reference level, not the percentage decline calculated from today’s opening price.

This distinction is important to note when reading the IHSG’s movement in the early minutes of trading. The opening level shows the index’s position when trading begins, while the percentage change displayed by the BEI describes the index’s movement against the previous closing level.
