Jakarta – The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) opened up 25 points, or 0.41 percent, at the 6,366 level at the start of trading on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.

Head of Retail Research Analyst, Fanny Suherman, predicted the IHSG has the potential to continue strengthening during today’s trading. “The IHSG has broken above the strong resistance at 6,300-6,320. If the IHSG continues to hold above 6,300, it has the potential to rise further to 6,700-6,850 in the medium term,” Fanny stated in her daily research note on Wednesday. “However, if it breaks back below 6,300, it could potentially correct again to the 6,000 level,” she added.

The majority of Asian markets strengthened in Tuesday’s trading. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index surged 3.26 percent, and the Topix increased by 2.44 percent. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng corrected by 0.04 percent. Additionally, Taiwan’s Taiex soared 4.2 percent, and Australia’s ASX 200 rose 0.02 percent. In South Korea, the Kospi index rose 3.56 percent and the Kosdaq strengthened 0.49 percent. On the other hand, the Straits Times added 0.45 percent and the FTSE Malaysia decreased by 0.11 percent.

This strengthening occurred after three days of declines in Asian markets, as the sell-off in chip company stocks eased ahead of major corporate earnings announcements this week. Rising oil prices and escalating tensions in the Middle East are giving investors reason to be cautious, adding to the shift out of technology stocks. Investor focus is now turning to the earnings releases of major companies to seek clues on whether AI-driven progress can be sustained.

“IHSG support is at the 6,230-6,300 level, while IHSG resistance is in the 6,380-6,470 range,” she stated.

For context, Wall Street stock indices closed higher in Tuesday’s trading, driven by a rally in semiconductor stocks and corporate financial reports that mostly exceeded expectations. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.74 percent, the S&P 500 strengthened 0.89 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite surged 1.29 percent. Positive sentiment came from the second quarter 2026 earnings season, which has so far shown solid results.
