IHSG Opens Higher, Poised for Rebound as Asian Markets Fall and Wall Street Surges
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) opened 74 points, or 1.26 percent, higher at 5,960 on Friday, 12 June 2026. Head of Retail Research at BNI Sekuritas, Fanny Suherman, predicted the IHSG could experience a rebound during the day’s trading. “The IHSG today has the potential for a short-term technical rebound to 5,900-5,950,” Fanny stated in her daily research note. She noted that most Asian markets fell on Thursday amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East after the United States launched new strikes against Iran. At the same time, global oil prices strengthened again, raising market concerns about global inflationary pressures and the prospect of higher interest rates for a longer period. Japan’s Nikkei index weakened by 1.9 percent and the Topix fell 1.2 percent. In South Korea, the Kospi index dropped 4.5 percent and the Kosdaq fell 1.7 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng weakened by 0.65 percent, Taiwan’s Taiex fell 3.3 percent, and the Shanghai Composite decreased by 0.2 percent, while Australia’s ASX 200 rose 0.6 percent. Fanny added that IHSG support lies at 5,780-5,840, with resistance at 5,900-6,000. Meanwhile, Wall Street indices closed sharply higher on Thursday after US President Donald Trump cancelled plans for strikes on Iran and stated that Washington was close to signing a deal with the country. Oil prices corrected as concerns over energy supply disruptions from the Middle East eased. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1.86 percent, the S&P 500 jumped 1.75 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 2.54 percent.
