IHSG Opens Higher as Asian Markets Trade Mixed Amid Wall Street Weakness

The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Composite opened 12 points, or 0.19 percent, higher at 6,346 on Thursday, 23 July 2026. Head of Retail Research Analyst Fanny Suherman predicted the IHSG has the potential to strengthen in today’s trading. “If the IHSG can hold firmly above the support level of 6,300-6,330, then the IHSG has the potential to continue rising to 6,700-6,850 in the middle term,” Fanny said in her daily research note on Thursday. “However, if it breaks below 6,300, the IHSG has the potential to correct further to the 6,000 level,” she added. Asian stock markets were mixed on Wednesday, following a rebound on Wall Street. This occurred amid rising oil prices due to escalating conflict in the Middle East and renewed buying of technology stocks, particularly in the semiconductor sector. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index fell 0.18 percent, while the Topix rose 0.45 percent. In South Korea, the Kospi index strengthened 0.74 percent, while the Kosdaq weakened 0.30 percent. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.95 percent, China’s CSI 300 dropped 0.46 percent, Taiwan’s Taiex surged 1.34 percent, and Australia’s ASX 200 added 0.34 percent. The price of Brent crude oil rose to US$94.97 per barrel after two tankers carrying Saudi Arabian crude to Asia turned back in the Red Sea due to the threat of attacks from Iran-backed Houthi groups in Yemen. “IHSG support is at the 6,250-6,300 level, while resistance is in the 6,380-6,480 range,” Fanny stated. For context, Wall Street indices closed lower on Wednesday. The surge in oil prices due to the escalating Middle East conflict pressured market sentiment by triggering concerns that inflation would remain high and prompt the US Federal Reserve to maintain a tight monetary policy. The S&P 500 index fell 0.14 percent, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.57 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a moderate correction of 0.01 percent.
