IHSG Opens Firm This Morning Amid Regional Stock Market Weakness
The Jakarta Composite Index opened higher in early trading. Data from the exchange show the IHSG up 47.98 points (0.76%) to 6,366.48.
Head of Retail Research at BNI Sekuritas, Fanny Suherman, said the IHSG could rebound in today’s trading. ‘The IHSG has potential for a short-term technical rebound to 6,400–6,450, but investors should sell on the rally as there is a risk of further correction,’ she said in her daily note on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
She noted that Asian stock markets retreated again yesterday, marking four consecutive sessions of declines amid rising US Treasury yields and inflation concerns stemming from geopolitical tensions.
In addition, markets are awaiting Nvidia’s earnings report. On the other hand, the overall environment weighed on global stock markets, as higher yields raise funding costs for companies and reduce the appeal of risk assets.
Meanwhile, the Nikkei 225 in Japan fell 1.23%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 0.57%, China’s CSI 300 fell slightly 0.04%, and Taiwan’s Taiex declined 0.49%.
South Korea’s KOSPI fell 0.86%, and Australia’s ASX 200 dropped 1.26%. Domestically, Bank Indonesia raised its policy rate by 50 basis points to 5.25%.
‘Support for the IHSG sits at the 6,000–6,200 level, while resistance is in the 6,400–6,450 range,’ she added.
Separately, Wall Street indices closed higher yesterday as concerns about surging oil prices and US government yields moderated. Market sentiment was buoyed by optimism that the Middle East conflict could ease soon. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.31%, the S&P 500 gained 1.08%, and the Nasdaq Composite increased 1.54%.
