IHSG Opens 0.21% Higher This Morning, Majority of Shares Strengthen
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) opened higher on Monday (3/8/2026), as market participants observed a series of domestic and global sentiments that will colour trading throughout the week. Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), at 09.00 WIB, the IHSG was at 6,248.98, up 12.85 points or 0.21% from last week’s close at 6,236.13. Transaction value was recorded at Rp484.1 billion, with a trading volume of 916.3 million shares across 77,840 transactions. A total of 318 shares strengthened, 130 shares weakened, while 515 shares remained stagnant. The IHSG is expected to continue moving with high volatility on Monday after closing 0.64% higher at 6,236.13 last week. Market participants will observe a number of global and domestic sentiments that could determine market direction in early August. Externally, Asia-Pacific stock markets opened uniformly in the red. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index weakened 1.43%, the Topix fell 1.45%, while South Korea’s Kospi plunged 4.57%. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 index also corrected 0.36%. The decline occurred despite United States President Donald Trump stating he had cancelled plans for an attack on Iran and opened the door for de-escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. Investors remain cautious while awaiting developments in negotiations and the geopolitical situation in the region. Domestically, investors will observe a series of important data, ranging from July inflation, the manufacturing PMI, trade balance, to the Financial System Stability Committee press conference. This week, market attention will also be focused on the release of Indonesia’s second-quarter 2026 economic growth data, China’s manufacturing and trade data, and United States employment data, which will provide clues on the direction of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy. In terms of fund flows, foreign investors recorded a net buy of Rp7.10 trillion throughout last week’s trading. However, this figure was heavily influenced by a jumbo transaction of PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk shares worth around Rp9.33 trillion in the negotiated market at the mandatory tender offer price. If that transaction is excluded, foreigners actually recorded a net sell of around Rp2 trillion in the regular market. This indicates that foreign selling pressure has eased compared to the previous week but has not yet fully reversed into accumulation. Last week’s foreign selling pressure was concentrated on several blue-chip stocks. Meanwhile, stocks targeted by foreign investors included PT Bank Central Asia Tbk, PT Timah Tbk, PT Barito Pacific Tbk, PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk, and PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. With this combination of sentiments, the IHSG’s movement at the start of the week is expected to be influenced by the market’s response to geopolitical developments in the Middle East, the opening of Asian markets, and the results of domestic economic data releases that begin to be announced today.
