JAKARTA – The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) is expected to move in a consolidative manner during trading on Thursday (16 April 2026), after correcting following a rally in the previous few days.

The IHSG previously closed weaker by 0.68% at the level of 7,623.586 on Wednesday (15 April 2026). Pressure on the index was triggered by profit-taking actions after the strengthening that occurred over the past week.

The infrastructure sector was recorded as the deepest contributor to the correction in that trading session.

From a technical perspective, the Stochastic RSI indicator has entered the overbought area and formed a death cross pattern. However, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) histogram still shows a positive trend with continued increases.

This weakening also serves as additional sentiment for the movement of the domestic stock market.

External pressure also comes from rising geopolitical risks.

S&P Global Ratings assesses Indonesia’s debt rating as one of the most vulnerable to being impacted if the conflict in the Middle East drags on.

The rise in energy prices due to the conflict has the potential to increase the government’s subsidy burden and pressure the state budget.

In addition, higher oil import costs could widen the current account deficit.

S&P also predicts that accelerated inflation will drive interest rate hikes, which ultimately increase the government’s borrowing costs.

At the global level, US policies blocking the Strait of Hormuz are also increasing pressure on energy-consuming countries like China and India.

With around 98% of Iran’s oil exports heading to China, such policies amplify geopolitical tensions.

This situation also has the potential to affect relations between the United States and China, especially ahead of the planned meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping in mid-May.
