IHSG Closes Lower as Capital Market Faces Continued Volatility
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) closed 0.05% lower at 6,127 on Friday, 29 May 2026. There were 271 gainers, 409 losers, and 137 unchanged. Trading volume reached 47.2 billion shares with a value of Rp50.1 trillion, while transaction frequency stood at 2.37 million. On Friday morning, the IHSG opened lower at 6,112, down 18 points. However, it rose 1.43% to 6,128 by the end of the first session. PasarDana co-founder Hans Kwee predicted heightened volatility in the equity market due to the upcoming Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) index rebalancing effective 1 June 2026. He noted that most fund managers likely adjusted their portfolios before the final date of 29 May 2026. “Notably, there is no significant panic in the market despite some MSCI-removed stocks being pressured lower,” he stated in a written statement on Thursday, 28 May 2026. Kwee added that the removal of certain issuers from the MSCI index is technical in nature and does not reflect a decline in companies’ fundamentals. He believes the post-rebalancing period could mark the bottom of the IHSG decline, with the stock market likely to recover based on underlying fundamentals in the future.
