IHSG Closes Higher, Tracking Asian Stock Market Gains
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) closed higher on Wednesday afternoon, tracking gains across Asian stock markets.
The IHSG closed up 31.53 points, or 0.53 percent, at 6,351.61. Meanwhile, the LQ45 index of 45 blue-chip stocks fell 1.22 points, or 0.19 percent, to 633.99.
“Asian regional markets were dominated by gains, following the rally on Wall Street overnight that pushed the Dow Jones and S&P 500 indices to new record highs,” said Maximilianus Nico Demus, Associate Director of Research and Investment at Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas, in his research note in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Nico explained that the positive sentiment was supported by strong corporate earnings performance, as well as a sharp decline in global crude oil prices.
On the other hand, investors were also monitoring reports about the possibility of a temporary agreement between the United States and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“This development is seen as capable of easing inflation concerns and reducing expectations of a near-term Federal Reserve rate hike,” Nico said.
Domestically, positive sentiment coloured the market, with second-quarter 2026 gross domestic product (GDP) showing a significant quarterly increase despite an annual decline.
Additionally, slowing inflation in July 2026 provided a positive sentiment for the market amid persistently high food price volatility and seasonal pressures from new school year spending.
Nico also noted that certainty regarding the rare earth export ban further supported sentiment, after the government allowed the resumption of exports of nickel, tin, and other commodities containing rare earth elements.
Opening higher, the IHSG remained in positive territory until the close of the first trading session. In the second session, the IHSG stayed in the green until the close of stock trading.
