Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesia Stock Exchange Composite Index (IHSG) closed down 1.33% at 5,863.78 on Thursday (15 October). Several shares moved the index: AMMN rose 1.39%, BMRI gained 0.51% and BBRI was up 0.32%. By contrast, BREN fell 6.03%, DSSA declined 6.15% and BBCA shed 0.82%.

Foreign investors recorded net purchases of Rp520.03 billion on the regular market and Rp567.96 billion across all markets. All 11 sectors ended in negative territory, with Consumer Cyclicals recording the steepest fall, down 3.20%.

In the United States, several leading indices closed higher. The Dow Jones rose 1.08% to 52,177, the S&P 500 gained 0.30% to 7,744, while the Nasdaq was broadly flat, edging up 0.08% to 26,713.

Meanwhile, MSCI has proposed reclassifying Indonesia from Emerging Market to Standalone Market. The proposal comes amid scrutiny of transparency and integrity in Indonesia’s capital market and could affect foreign fund flows. Year to date, foreign investors have recorded net sales of Rp85.42 trillion.

The MSCI Indonesia Index fell 0.28%, while the EIDO exchange-traded fund was broadly flat, rising 0.09%.

MSCI has opened a consultation on its proposal to downgrade Indonesia’s index classification from Emerging Market to Standalone Market. Consultation with market participants will run until 30 April 2027, with a final decision due no later than 30 June 2027.

The proposal relates to market participants’ assessments of several aspects of the investability of Indonesian shares, including ownership-structure transparency and alleged coordinated trading. These issues remain a concern despite the capital-market authorities having announced a number of reform measures.

MSCI said the process would continue if there was not yet material evidence of improvements in market governance. It has also maintained its freeze on changes to Indonesian share indices.

A reclassification to Standalone Market could affect foreign funds that use Emerging Market indices as investment benchmarks. This is one of the factors market participants need to monitor.

Against the backdrop of scrutiny of Indonesia’s capital market, Chandra Asri Pacific (TPIA) has completed a strategic investment transaction with Danantara Investment Management (DIM) and the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) to develop a Chlor Alkali-Ethylene Dichloride (CA-EDC) project in Cilegon, Banten. TPIA will be the project’s lead developer.

The CA-EDC facility is designed to produce around 400 KTA of caustic soda and 500 KTA of ethylene dichloride (EDC). As of September 2026, construction was around 80% complete, and commercial operations are targeted to begin in 2027.

The partnership combines long-term funding support from DIM and INA with the industrial experience of Chandra Asri Group. The project aligns with the national downstream-processing agenda to reduce reliance on imports, save foreign exchange and strengthen supplies of raw materials for downstream industries.

One application is in the bauxite and alumina industrial chain, where caustic soda is required in production. The CA-EDC project is also expected to create around 3,000 jobs during construction and approximately 250 permanent positions once the facility is operational.

Petrosea (PTRO) plans to conduct a rights issue, formally known as a capital increase with pre-emptive rights (PMHMETD). The company will issue up to 170 million new shares, with a nominal value of Rp5 per share.

This amount is equivalent to around 1.69% of the company’s issued and fully paid-up capital. The rights issue price has not yet been set.

After issuance costs, the proceeds will be used as working capital to support engineering and construction projects, PTRO’s main business activities.

The move is also intended to strengthen the company’s equity and capital structure to support revenue growth. Shareholders who do not exercise their rights could face maximum dilution of around 1.66%.

PTRO’s rights issue plan is still awaiting shareholder approval at an extraordinary general meeting, scheduled for 23 November 2026.
