IHSG Closes 1.23% Lower Ahead of Idul Adha 1447 H Holiday
The Indonesia Stock Exchange Composite Index (IHSG) closed lower on Tuesday (26 May 2026), with profit-taking by investors ahead of the extended Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah holiday being the primary trigger for the index’s decline.
The IHSG fell 76.16 points, or 1.23%, to 6,130.19. The LQ45 index of 45 blue-chip stocks also declined 10.81 points, or 1.71%, to 620.40. Throughout the trading session, the IHSG remained in negative territory from open to close.
Ratna Lim, Head of Research at Phintraco Securities, explained that besides the holiday factor, negative sentiment also came from external sources. ‘The index decline was driven by profit-taking ahead of the holiday and MSCI rebalancing,’ she said in her analysis in Jakarta.
Global geopolitical tensions further pressured the market following recent US strikes on southern Iran. Instability in the region has raised market concerns despite earlier hopes for peace. In the foreign exchange market, the rupiah weakened 0.29% to Rp17,795 per US dollar.
In the commodities sector, global crude oil prices showed mixed movements. Brent crude rose 1.97%, while WTI fell significantly by 4.97%.
According to the IDX-IC Sectoral Index, almost all sectors closed in negative territory. The industrial sector saw the steepest drop at 3.66%, followed by property (2.30%) and non-essential consumer goods (2.27%). Only the infrastructure sector managed a marginal gain of 0.28%.
Trading frequency reached 1,964,477 transactions, with 241 stocks rising, 447 falling, and 133 stagnant. Top gainers included MGNA, ARTA, NZIA, ELFI, and AWAN, while top losers were MSIN, RISE, TALF, BHAT, and ASPR.
For the next trading session on Friday (29 May 2026), the IHSG is expected to fluctuate. ‘The IHSG is likely to trade between 6,000 and 6,200 this Friday,’ Ratna added.
The IHSG opened lower at 6,201.80 on Tuesday (26 May 2026). Investors monitored the single-door export policy for natural resources via PT Danantara.
