IHSG and Rupiah Weaken Simultaneously at the Weekend Close
The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed down 1.88% at 6,196 on Friday’s trading. A total of 104 stocks advanced, 587 declined, and 105 remained unchanged. Trading volume was recorded at 37.9 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 17.7 trillion, while the frequency of transactions reached 2.25 million times. “After briefly touching the 6,400 level intraday this week, the IHSG weakened on Friday due to negative sentiment from rising crude oil prices, which triggered profit-taking,” wrote the research team at Phintraco Sekuritas in a study on Friday. In addition to rising oil prices, another negative sentiment was the imposition of a 10% import tariff by the United States on products from Indonesia. The import tariff policy also affected the rupiah exchange rate. The Garuda currency closed weaker at Rp 17,963 per US dollar. Director of PT Traze Andalan Futures Ibrahim Assuaibi said the new tariff was imposed after the end of a previous temporary tariff policy that had been in effect for 150 days. Furthermore, escalating conflict in the Middle East has the potential to pressure Indonesia’s external performance, ranging from a widening current account deficit to pressure on the rupiah exchange rate in the third quarter of 2026. Ibrahim noted that crude oil prices have again risen above the state budget target. “So the government must add US dollars to cover the deficit,” he said in a written statement on Friday. Ibrahim also highlighted Indonesia’s trade balance, which recorded a deficit of US$1.61 billion in May 2026. This deficit was the first after the trade balance had recorded a surplus for 72 consecutive months.
