Ignoring Trump's Pleas, Israel-Iran Conflict Re-ignites!
The Middle East is once again in turmoil. Israeli authorities stated on Monday (8/6) that they had attacked targets in various regions of Iran. This move defies calls from US President Donald Trump for restraint following Tehran’s missile barrage.
Explosions were heard in three cities, including the Iranian capital, Tehran, according to Iranian state television. Meanwhile, the Israeli military stated it had struck targets in western and central Iran.
According to AFP news agency on Monday (8/6/2026), Israel described its missile strikes as a retaliatory action against Iran’s attack on Sunday (7/6), which involved 11 missiles. All Iranian missiles were reportedly intercepted, with no casualties reported.
Previously, Trump had attempted to calm Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as Israel accused Tehran of committing a “grave mistake.”
“I will call Bibi [Netanyahu’s nickname] now and tell him not to retaliate,” Trump said, as quoted by Axios journalist Barak Ravid during a telephone interview.
“Israel has carried out its attack and Iran has carried out its attack. We do not need any more attacks,” Trump stated, as reported.
Ravid subsequently posted that a US official confirmed Trump had spoken with Netanyahu, although the White House and Trump have not yet provided official comment.
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper also called for restraint.
“The return of conflict between Iran and Israel is in no one’s interest,” she wrote on the social media platform X, while calling for diplomacy.
Tehran has insisted that any agreement to permanently end the war must also halt the parallel conflict in Lebanon, where Israel is conducting strikes against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement. Tehran had previously warned that any new attack on Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, would trigger a “return to full-scale hostilities.”
Ali Safari, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told Al-Mayadeen television that Tehran’s attack occurred after weeks of exercising restraint against Israeli aggression.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard described the attack as a “warning” following Israel’s strikes on the southern outskirts of Beirut. The Guard has threatened broader attacks should Israeli aggression recur.
