Iftar Rules on KRL, Transjakarta, MRT and LRT Public Transport
Several of Jakarta’s public transport operators have established specific rules for passengers wishing to break their Ramadan fast whilst travelling on KRL commuter trains, Transjakarta buses, MRT, and both LRT Jabodebek and LRT Jakarta services.
1. Iftar Rules on KRL Commuter Trains
Permitted items: - Mineral water (bottled or in a tumbler) - Dates (or other fruit without a strong odour) - Light snacks (such as bread)
Prohibited items: - Rice with side dishes - Ready-to-eat meals - Strong-smelling food and beverages - Coffee, fizzy drinks, syrup and fruit ice drinks
Key conditions: - Only permitted once iftar time has arrived - Maximum duration of one hour from the time of breaking fast - Passengers must maintain cleanliness in train and station areas - Rubbish must be stored and disposed of in bins provided at destination stations - KAI Commuter is also providing free water stations at several stations for those wishing to break their fast, provided they bring their own tumbler or drinking vessel
2. Iftar Rules on Transjakarta
- Passengers may break their fast with water, dates or light snacks
- Eating and drinking is permitted on buses for a maximum of 10 minutes after the Maghrib call to prayer
- Passengers may also enjoy snacks at retail and commercial areas available at Transjakarta stops
- Cleanliness must be maintained across all Transjakarta areas
3. Iftar Rules on MRT Jakarta
Permitted items: - Mineral water (bottled or in a tumbler) - Dates
Prohibited items: - Rice with side dishes - Small snacks - Ready-to-eat meals - Tea, coffee, syrup, fizzy drinks - Any beverages other than mineral water
Key conditions: - Only permitted once iftar time has arrived - Maximum duration of 10 minutes from the call to prayer - Passengers must maintain cleanliness in station and train areas - Rubbish must be kept until the nearest bin is found
4. Iftar Rules on LRT Jabodebek
- During Ramadan, LRT Jabodebek passengers are permitted to break their fast on trains and at stations in accordance with applicable regulations
- Passengers may break their fast on trains from Maghrib time until 19:00 Western Indonesian Time
- Light foods are recommended, such as dates, bread and mineral water
- Heavy meals and strong-smelling food should be avoided
- Passengers must take their rubbish with them until reaching their destination station
- Free drinking water is available at all LRT Jabodebek stations
- Prayer rooms are available at every station
5. Iftar Rules on LRT Jakarta
- Drinking plain water and eating light snacks without a strong odour is permitted
- Heavy meals are prohibited
- Strong-smelling food is prohibited
- The maximum time for breaking fast is 10 minutes after the call to prayer
- Cleanliness of trains and stations must be maintained
