Jakarta — The Indonesian Furniture and Crafts Industry Association (HIMKI) has confirmed that the 2026 Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) will serve as a strategic platform to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s furniture and crafts industry in global markets.

HIMKI chairman Abdul Sobur stated that IFEX 2026 will be held on 5-8 March 2026 at ICE BSD in Tangerang, Banten, featuring more than 5,000 flagship products from 500 exhibitors. The expo will also bring together world-renowned designers with Indonesian industry practitioners in a collaborative forum.

“IFEX is a meeting space between tradition and the future. We cannot discuss global competitiveness without a foundation of culture, craftsmanship quality, and material sustainability,” said Sobur in a statement on Monday.

The shift towards high-value-added products is a defining characteristic of industry development, with design serving as a strategic differentiator in global competition.

In line with this vision, IFEX 2026 adopts a “Beyond Comfort Visual” approach, positioning furniture design not merely as an aesthetic element but also as a strategic economic value capable of driving the competitiveness of Indonesian products in international markets.

Furthermore, IFEX is being developed as an industrial ecosystem that unites manufacturing strength, design creativity, and global market networks.

Through IFEX, businesses will not only have the opportunity to conduct transactions but also gain strategic insights into global design directions, market trends, and international quality standards.

This approach is believed to strengthen the national industry structure and sustainably increase the export value of Indonesian furniture.

As part of the activities, HIMKI will also hold the IFEX International Seminar titled “Root of Excellent,” featuring world-class design figures and industrial thought leaders.

According to Sobur, the seminar will serve as a strategic space that unites the strength of national manufacturing with global design vision.

Deputy Secretary-General of HIMKI, Syahrizal Mustafa, considers the event important because it brings together world-class designers with Indonesian industry practitioners in an equal and inspiring dialogue.

He believes the theme is not only conceptually relevant but also applicable as it addresses issues of global design, material sustainability, industrial financing, and strengthening local identity as a foundation for competitiveness.
