If He Had Honestly Admitted His Expertise in Assembling Firearms, Ki Bedil Might Not Have Been Prosecuted
Criminal law expert from Trisakti University, Abdul Fickar Hadjar, stated that TS, alias Ki Bedil, could potentially avoid criminal charges despite possessing specialised skills in firearm manufacturing. According to Fickar, Ki Bedil could have directly reported to the bureaucracy or authorities that he has expertise in the field of firearms. “That’s how it should be. Then he could be employed, collaborated with a firearms factory or something,” said Fickar to Kompas.com via telephone on Monday (13/4/2026). Fickar also explained that if Ki Bedil used his skills to make hunting weapons without using sharp ammunition, he might escape criminal prosecution. However, Ki Bedil has already been involved in the firearms business for 20 years and has become part of street crimes. Therefore, Fickar believes that the recent proliferation of crimes involving firearms indicates that the circulation of Ki Bedil’s goods is illegal. “Well, that becomes an indicator that there is indeed circulation of firearms outside state supervision, which actually happens. This is actually the government’s homework, the state’s homework,” he said. “The users must also be punished,” he added. Previous reports stated that the police arrested Ki Bedil as part of the development of the case involving suspect AS in the illegal possession and distribution of firearms and explosive materials.
