IEU-CEPA Expected to Open Wider European Investment Flows into Indonesia
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto hopes that the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) can open greater investment opportunities from European countries into Indonesia.
Airlangga said that economic cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union is showing increasingly positive development. According to him, a number of European countries have begun actively bringing business delegations to Indonesia to explore investment opportunities.
“If this is ratified, it will open or unlock the investment potential that will enter Indonesia,” Airlangga said during a press conference on the agenda of a meeting of European Union ambassadors on Friday (21/8/2026).
He said Europe is currently one of Indonesia’s important investment partners. Therefore, ratification of the IEU-CEPA is considered capable of providing certainty and encouraging European businesses to increase their investment in Indonesia.
Airlangga said that in recent times a number of European countries have visited Indonesia with large business delegations.
He cited the example of a business delegation from Germany that has come to Indonesia twice. In addition, there have also been delegations from France and several other European countries.
“It appears that almost all EU countries will bring big delegations to Indonesia. This is because of the spirit of the IEU-CEPA,” he said.
According to Airlangga, the IEU-CEPA not only opens trade opportunities but can also strengthen investment cooperation in various sectors.
Airlangga believes that future cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union must provide benefits for both parties. Indonesia has the opportunity to obtain investment and technology, while the European Union also gains access to the Indonesian market.
“It is time for us to establish a more equal cooperation, with both sides benefiting for the welfare of the people of the EU and Indonesia,” he said.
