IEA Head Discusses Global Energy Crisis with Canadian PM
Moscow (ANTARA) - Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, stated on Wednesday that he met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss the current crisis in the global energy market.
“A very good meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney… We discussed the latest crisis in the global energy market,” Birol wrote on X.
He added that the meeting took place in Ottawa.
During the talks, they also discussed the steps taken by the Canadian government to meet energy demands, both domestically and for exports, he added.
Birol also met with Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson to discuss the consequences of the Middle East conflict, Canada’s role in securing the energy supply chain, and the need for greater diversification in the supply chain of critical minerals.
EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jorgensen, stated that the world is facing the most serious energy crisis in history amid escalation related to Iran.
The recent escalation of tensions around Iran has caused a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which is the main route for shipping oil and liquefied natural gas from Persian Gulf countries to global markets, thereby driving up fuel prices.
