PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) will, in its initial phase, open short selling transactions for five stocks designated as eligible securities starting 1 October 2026.

The five stocks are PT Astra International Tbk (ASII), PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA), PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT), PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI), and PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF).

Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday, the President Director of IDX, Jeffrey Hendrik, stated that two Brokerage Members (AB) have met the requirements to provide short selling services as of 1 October 2026.

“There are two Brokerage Members authorised to perform short selling, namely Semesta Indovest Sekuritas and Ajaib Sekuritas,” said Jeffrey.

Jeffrey explained that investors intending to engage in short selling must also meet specific requirements and have opened a short selling account with either of the two authorised Brokerage Members.

Furthermore, investors are required to provide initial margin funds for margin and/or short selling transactions, which may consist of 50 per cent of the transaction value or a minimum of Rp50 million, depending on the initial collateral requirements set by the Brokerage Member.

Additionally, investors must understand their rights and obligations and sign a securities lending agreement with the securities firm.

Previously, Jeffrey expressed confidence that the implementation of short selling transactions could increase the liquidity of the Indonesian stock market by up to 17 per cent.
