IDX reveals Indonesian capital market investors reached 31.9 million SID as of September
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) has revealed that the number of Indonesian capital market investors reached 31.90 million Single Investor Identification (SID) holders by the end of September 2026.
The number of Indonesian capital market investors has shown consistent growth, following a recorded 31.14 million SID holders at the end of August 2026.
“Investors are growing every month. The current number is 31.9 million (SID),” said the President Director of IDX, Jeffrey Hendrik, when interviewed by journalists at the IDX Building, Jakarta, on Thursday.
Jeffrey stated that the growth in the number of investors demonstrates the widening participation of the public in the Indonesian capital market, through both stock investments and other capital market instruments.
He noted that the IDX will ensure the continuous development of the Indonesian capital market ecosystem to increase investor access and participation, partly through the development of products and trading infrastructure.
The IDX aims to reach 35 million SID holders by 2030, as outlined in the 2026-2030 Sustainable Capital Market Roadmap.
Starting Thursday (1/9), the IDX has implemented a short selling transaction mechanism, with five stocks initially included in the list of securities eligible for trading via this mechanism.
On the first day of the short selling implementation, the IDX recorded that 50 investors had opened short selling trading accounts, which are distinct from standard Stock Client Fund Accounts (RDN).
Jeffrey confirmed that the initial implementation of short selling has proceeded smoothly, without significantly affecting the volatility of the traded stocks.
“Some stocks rose or remained relatively unchanged in price this morning. Therefore, in general, the implementation of short selling is running smoothly,” he said.
Jeffrey explained that the implementation of short selling is currently in a trial phase that will continue until the end of 2026. Subsequently, its application will be evaluated for potential expansion in early 2027.
The five stocks currently available for short selling are PT Astra International Tbk (ASII), PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA), PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT), PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI), and PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF).
Meanwhile, two Brokerage Members (AB) have met the requirements to provide short selling transaction services in the initial stage: Semesta Indovest Sekuritas and Ajaib Sekuritas.
He revealed that there are two additional Brokerage Members currently in the pipeline to become members facilitating short selling transaction services.
