The Acting President Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), Jeffrey Hendrik, has responded to the slump in the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) during trading on Monday, 18 May 2026. In the morning session, the JCI experienced a correction of up to 4 per cent.

“Certainly, upon our observation, uncertainty in our market remains quite high,” said Jeffrey at the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Monday, 18 May 2026. Nevertheless, he noted that the JCI’s weakness at the start of this week is in line with global market conditions across Asia, as Asian markets also underwent corrections during the recent long weekend.

Jeffrey explained that the current sources of uncertainty include fluctuations in commodity prices, exchange rate volatility in various countries, and the uncertain resolution of conflicts in the Middle East. He stated that all these uncertainties are impacting the movement of the JCI.

Furthermore, Jeffrey advised investors not to panic and to focus more on fundamental conditions. “Therefore, we will not tire of reminding investors to continue paying attention to fundamentals, avoid panic, analyse carefully, and arrange investment strategies according to their respective risk profiles,” he said.

The JCI opened at the 6,628 level in this morning’s trading, Monday, 18 May 2026. This position weakened compared to last week’s close of 6,723.32. According to data, the JCI briefly weakened by 4.32 per cent to the 6,432 level at 10:00 WIB.

Imam Gunadi, an Equity Analyst at PT Indo Premier Sekuritas (IPOT), stated that the market’s focus this week will remain on the implementation of the rebalancing or adjustment of the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) index and stock weights. “Volatility is expected to remain high, particularly during the closing auction session, which is usually the primary point for the portfolio adjustment of global passive funds,” he said in a press release on Monday, 18 May 2026.
