TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) has released a list of stocks eligible for short selling transactions in October 2026.

The list was published in IDX announcement No. Peng-00178/BEI.POP/09-2026, issued on Monday, September 28, 2026.

“With this announcement, the Exchange establishes the List of Securities that may be traded and/or pledged in Margin Transactions and/or Short Selling for financing and/or transactions in October 2026,” the announcement said, as quoted on Wednesday, September 30.

Short selling will take effect again on October 1, 2026.

Based on the announcement, five stocks are eligible for short selling: Astra International Tbk (ASII), Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA), Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT), Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI), and Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF).

Previously, IDX Development Director Iding Pardi said the decision to resume short selling was partly prompted by a note from Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) regarding limited short-selling activity in Indonesia.

He said another reason was that market conditions were considered relatively stable.

“Although the JCI (Jakarta Composite Index) is still well below its all-time high, if we look at the market now, it is relatively stable,” Iding told reporters at the IDX Building on Friday, September 18, 2026.

According to Iding, short selling is needed as an instrument for hedging, or managing investment risk.
