Jakarta. The first half of 2026 has been a challenging period for the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), according to its President Director, Jeffrey Hendrik. The market faced headwinds including geopolitical instability in the Middle East and scrutiny from global index providers MSCI and FTSE. Despite these pressures, the IDX recorded notable achievements, with market deepening efforts continuing, investor numbers growing by 40%, and transaction value increasing by over 30%. To directly address the concerns of MSCI and FTSE, the IDX has implemented four specific initiatives focused on enhancing share transparency. These include the introduction of regulations mandating a minimum free float for listed companies and new rules addressing high shareholding concentration (HSC). Hendrik also urged market participants and businesses to utilise the capital market as a source of financing, not only through equity issuance but also via bond offerings.
