The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) has addressed the weakening of the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI), which fell by more than 4% during today’s trading session. Acting President Director of the IDX, Jeffrey Hendrik, assessed that the correction in the domestic stock market remains in line with the pressures experienced in global and Asian markets during the trading hiatus last Thursday and Friday.

“During the period when the JCI was on holiday, Asian markets underwent corrections. When accumulating the corrections from two days in the global and Asian markets along with additional global pressures, it aligns with the global market trends seen today, albeit amidst high uncertainty,” Jeffrey told reporters at the IDX Building in Jakarta on Monday (18/05/2026).

Furthermore, the IDX hopes that foreign investor participation in the Indonesian capital market will continue to increase. This is expected to be supported by the growth of domestic retail investors, which as of last Wednesday, reached 27 million Single Investor Identification (SID) holders. According to Jeffrey, the increase in domestic investor participation is expected to deepen Indonesia’s financial market. Out of the 27 million capital market investors, approximately 9.7 million are specifically equity investors.

He added that monthly investor activity remains stable, with the number of active investors reaching over one million each month. This condition is seen as reflecting relatively good retail investor activity in the domestic stock market. “We remind investors to continue monitoring fundamentals and not to panic, performing careful analysis to manage investment strategies according to their respective risk profiles amidst dynamic market conditions and high uncertainty,” Jeffrey noted.

It is reported that the JCI plummeted by 2.42% as of 15:48 WIB on Monday (18/05/2026). Throughout the first session, the JCI moved within the range of 6,398.79–6,631.28 and at one point dropped by more than 4%. By the end of the first session, the JCI stood at 6,470.35, down 252.97 points or -3.76%. A total of 715 issuers declined, 154 remained unchanged, and only 90 increased.
