IDX Demutualisation: Danantara Expresses Interest
The Indonesia Investment Authority (BPI Danantara) has reportedly expressed interest in the demutualisation scheme of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The interest was conveyed through Danantara Investment Management (DIM), although the form and composition of its involvement have yet to be determined.
IDX President Director Jeffrey Hendrik stated that communication with parties who have expressed interest will continue while awaiting the technical rules regarding demutualisation to be set out in a Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK).
“The party that has already expressed interest is BPI Danantara through DIM,” Jeffrey told reporters at the IDX Media Room in Jakarta on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
Jeffrey said no decision has been made regarding the ownership composition or the share that interested parties may take in the IDX demutualisation process. All such provisions will later refer to the POJK.
“What will the composition be? We don’t know yet, that will be regulated by the POJK,” he said.
Jeffrey added that the IDX is still waiting for further arrangements from the OJK concerning the technicalities of demutualisation. Therefore, the interest that has been conveyed cannot yet be translated into certainty regarding the form of ownership or the size of the stake that will enter the IDX’s new structure.
“We don’t know yet, it will be regulated in the POJK. We will just see what the POJK says,” he remarked.
He explained that the IDX has previously conducted studies and comparative analyses of several exchanges that have undergone demutualisation. The studies covered exchanges in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, and Malaysia.
From these studies, the format most suited to the characteristics of the Indonesian market will be selected. This format will subsequently be set out in the OJK regulation.
“The comparative study has already been carried out. Then, of course, we will look for the most appropriate format for Indonesia, and that, once again, will be set out in the POJK,” Jeffrey said.
