The Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) opened weaker in trading on Wednesday (16/09/2026). At 09:00 WIB, the IHSG fell by 0.17%, or 11.13 points, to the level of 6,450.02.

According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), the IHSG opened at 6,453.91. The index briefly touched a high of 6,460.82 and a low of 6,445.24 during early trading.

In the stock market, 209 stocks strengthened, 197 stocks weakened, and 557 stocks remained stagnant.

The IHSG is expected to face pressure during Wednesday’s trading, amidst a surge in global bond yields, rising world oil prices, and investor anticipation regarding the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision.

Brent crude prices closed up nearly 3% to US$108.75 per barrel, while WTI strengthened by more than 4% to US$105.83 per barrel. This increase was driven by energy supply concerns due to conflicts in the Middle East, including disruptions to Saudi Arabian oil distribution routes.

The surge in energy prices has also heightened inflation concerns and pushed up global bond yields. The US 10-year Treasury yield briefly breached 5.041%, its highest since 2007, before closing at 4.966%.

Investors are also awaiting the Federal Reserve’s decision on Thursday (17/09/2026) at 01:00 WIB. The market anticipates a 25 basis point interest rate hike to the 3.75%-4.00% range, with a 92.4% probability according to CME FedWatch. Market attention is now focused on signals regarding future monetary policy.

From Asia, China’s economic slowdown is also a point of concern. China’s retail sales grew by 0.4% year-on-year in August, below market expectations, while the urban unemployment rate rose to 5.3%, the highest since March.

Domestically, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) is scheduled to launch the Indonesia Commodity Exchange (Icomex) on Thursday (17/09/2026). Tin will be the first strategic mining commodity to be traded, with the first transaction targeted for January 2027.

Additionally, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) has reactivated short selling transactions as of 15 September 2026. The list of securities eligible for transaction through this mechanism will be published on 28 September and will take effect in October 2026.

Investors are also closely monitoring US retail sales data released Wednesday night, as well as Japan’s trade balance. This economic data has the potential to influence monetary policy expectations and global currency movements.

The combination of rising energy prices, surging bond yields, and uncertainty regarding the direction of the Fed’s interest rates constitutes several sentiments that market participants must monitor during today’s IHSG trading.
