The Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) ended trading on Monday (31/8/2026) with a slight gain amidst high market volatility. The index’s movement was overshadowed by portfolio adjustment actions ahead of the effective MSCI rebalancing.

According to trading data, the IHSG closed up 7.36 points or 0.11% to the level of 6,525.48. The index was initially pressured, touching a low of 6,476.18, before reversing to strengthen and reach a peak of 6,528.10.

The IHSG’s gains were supported by several large-cap stocks, particularly in the financial sector. In terms of contribution to the index, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) was the largest supporter, contributing 9.32 points.

In addition to BBRI, several other stocks that contributed positively included PT Alami Resources Indonesia Tbk (ADRO) by 3.24 points, PT Merdeka Gold Resources Tbk (BRMS) by 2.97 points, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) by 2.81 points, and PT Adaro Andalan Indonesia Tbk (AADI) by 2.20 points.

Beyond the financial sector, the industrial sector recorded a 0.5% increase, non-primary consumer goods rose by 0.42%, and primary consumer goods increased by 0.22%.

Conversely, several sectors remained in the red. Healthcare saw the deepest decline at 2.35%, followed by utilities at 0.88%, technology at 0.67%, energy at 0.27%, and property at 0.20%.

Pressure on the index primarily came from several stocks such as PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN), which reduced the IHSG by 8.67 points, followed by PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) by 3.59 points, PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk (SRAJ) by 3.52 points, and PT DCI Indonesia Tbk (DCII) by 3.41 points.

Trading activity also surged. Total transaction volume reached 48.93 billion shares, with a transaction value of Rp24.72 trillion and a trading frequency of 2.37 million times.

A total of 413 stocks strengthened, while 245 stocks weakened and 305 others remained stagnant.

Meanwhile, during the first session, foreign investors recorded a net buy of Rp183.56 billion, with a purchase value of Rp2.95 trillion and sales of Rp2.77 trillion. BBRI was the most heavily purchased stock by foreign investors, with a net buy of Rp163.98 billion.
