IDX Composite Opens Green but Tends Flat as Asian Markets and Wall Street Strengthen Supported by Fed Interest Rates
The IDX Composite (IHSG) opened stronger by 50 points or 0.78 per cent at the 6,512 level at the start of trading on Friday, 18 September 2026.
Head of Retail Research Analyst, Fanny Suherman, predicts that the IHSG will remain sideways during today’s trading session. “The IHSG has the potential to continue moving sideways today within the 6,420-6,540 range,” Suherman stated in his daily research on Friday, 18 September 2026.
Asian markets were mixed, with the majority gaining on Thursday after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates on Wednesday and hinted at further increases. The Fed’s rate hike also drove up short-term US government bond yields and pushed the US dollar to its highest level. Additionally, the Fed may raise interest rates once more this year.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index rose by 0.33 per cent, while blue-chip stocks in China fell by 0.45 per Whilst the Hang Seng in Hong Kong weakened by 0.44 per cent and South Korea’s KOSPI declined by 0.04 per cent.
Other sentiment was driven by falling oil prices, triggered by reports that Saudi Arabia is offering additional crude oil cargoes via Oman. This development eased market concerns regarding supply disruptions from the Middle East region.
On the other hand, Australia’s ASX 200 rose by 0.41 per cent and New Zealand’s NZX 50 strengthened by 0.89 per cent. Furthermore, the New Zealand economy grew by 0.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the previous quarter.
“Support for the IHSG is at the 6,350-6,420 level, while resistance is in the 6,500-6,540 range,” Suherman added.
For context, Wall Street’s main indices rebounded and closed higher in Thursday’s trading, as falling oil prices, declining US bond yields, and solid labour data supported the market against the sentiment of Fed interest rate hikes.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.62 per cent, the S&P 500 strengthened by 1.14 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite surged 1.69 per cent to 26,418.30. The technology sector led the gains among the 11 main sectors of the S&P 500, while the financial and consumer staples sectors recorded slight declines.
