The Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) plummeted by more than 1% during the first trading session this Tuesday (22/09/2026). The index dropped 71.16 points, or 1.11%, to the level of 6,313.57.
Throughout the first session, the IHSG weakened as 537 stocks declined, 269 remained stagnant, and only 157 stocks rose. The index was primarily weighed down by the energy sector, which slumped by 3.07%, followed by the real estate sector, down 1.5%, and the utilities sector, which fell by 1.2%.
Trading volume reached 19.64 billion shares, with a transaction frequency of 1,249 thousand times and a total transaction value of Rp7.97 trillion. Although the IHSG initially opened stronger at 6,392.34 and reached a daily high of 6,423.84, selling pressure reversed the trend, bringing the index to a low of 6,277.68.
After hitting its lowest point, the IHSG saw a slight recovery, moving back towards the 6,300 range. However, this strength was insufficient to return the index to its opening level. At the last recorded position, the IHSG stood at 6,313.57, marking a 1.11% decline.
According to Stockbit, total trading volume for the day reached 206.30 million lots with a transaction value of Rp7.99 trillion, and a frequency of 1.36 million times. In the regular market, transactions totalled 202.75 million lots with a value of Rp7.80 trillion. Meanwhile, the negotiated market recorded 3.54 million lots with a value of Rp187.00 billion, and the cash market remained relatively small with 294 lots valued at Rp33.48 million.
The primary drags on the IHSG included PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN), which contributed -16.71 points after dropping 7.81% to the 12,100 level. Other significant contributors to the decline were PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) with -8.76 points, PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS), PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (TLKM), and PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI).
Conversely, supporting stocks that helped mitigate the correction included PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN), PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA), PT Merdeka Gold Resources Tbk (EMAS), PT Indosat Tbk (ISAT), and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (CPIN).
Indonesian financial markets on Tuesday are closely watching developments in the Middle East conflict alongside domestic agendas. The surge in Wall Street and Bitcoin is expected to provide positive sentiment for the IHSG and the Rupiah.
Domestically, Bank Indonesia (BI) has commenced its September Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) on Tuesday. The two-day meeting is scheduled to announce the benchmark interest rate, or BI Rate, on Wednesday (23/09/2026). This announcement will be the first for Destry Damayanti since her inauguration as the definitive Governor of BI on 2 September.
