IDX Closes Lower Amid Profit Taking Ahead of Weekend
Market caution, driven by prevailing market sentiment, was overshadowed by profit-taking actions ahead of the weekend.
The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) closed lower on Friday afternoon as investors engaged in profit-taking ahead of the weekend period. The IDX Composite (IHSG) fell by 31.41 points, or 0.47 per cent, to 6,636.48. Meanwhile, the LQ45 index, comprising 45 blue-chip stocks, declined by 5.18 points, or 0.78 per cent, to 657.59.
“Market caution, alongside market sentiment, was also shadowed by profit-taking actions ahead of this weekend,” stated Maximilianus Nico Demus, Associate Director of Research and Investment at Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas, in his analysis in Jakarta on Friday.
Regarding domestic factors, Nico noted that market participants are awaiting important domestic data to be released next week, including foreign exchange reserve data, the August 2026 Consumer Confidence Index (IKK), and July 2026 retail sales.
Throughout this week, he noted that market confidence has increased following the smooth leadership transition at Bank Indonesia (BI), where Governor Destry Damayanti has promised to implement responsive policies to maintain economic stability and growth.
Internationally, Asian markets strengthened, supported by reduced expectations regarding interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve in September 2026. Fed Governor Christopher Waller stated his readiness to support interest rate stability if inflationary pressures show signs of easing, suggesting the Fed may be more inclined to maintain rather than raise rates in September 2026.
After opening stronger, the IDX Composite moved into negative territory by the end of the first trading session. In the second session, the index remained in the red until the close of trading.
Based on the IDX-IC Sectoral Index, three sectors strengthened, led by the industrial sector which rose by 0.64 per cent, followed by the energy and non-primary consumer goods sectors, which rose by 0.30 per cent and 0.22 per cent, respectively.
Conversely, eight sectors weakened, with the technology sector experiencing the deepest decline of 1.02 per cent, followed by the transportation & logistics and primary consumer goods sectors, which fell by 0.91 per cent and 0.89 per cent, respectively.
The stocks that saw the largest price increases were UANG, RONY, SMMT, SURE, and NATO, while the largest decliners were PTSP, MDIA, UDNG, LOPI, and BALI.
Trading frequency was recorded at 1,028,000 transactions, with a total of 34.27 billion shares traded valued at Rp14.99 trillion. A total of 276 stocks increased, 379 decreased, and 308 remained unchanged.
