IDX Chief Affirms Demutualisation Will Not Affect Indonesian Capital Market Independence
President Director of PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX), Jeffrey Hendrik, has assured that despite future share ownership by a number of investors, the exchange will maintain the independence of the Indonesian capital market as mandated by the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (UU P2SK).
This follows the IDX’s support and commitment to implementing the P2SK Law mandate regarding demutualisation.
“The share ownership by these parties will still preserve the independence of the Stock Exchange,” Jeffrey said at a press conference following the IDX Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPSLB) in Jakarta on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
He revealed that the exchange has currently gathered a number of potential investors who have expressed interest in owning shares of PT BEI following demutualisation.
Jeffrey acknowledged that the IDX is also in discussions with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and all shareholders to follow up on the interest from these potential investors.
“There are already potential investors who have expressed interest in investing in the Indonesia Stock Exchange, in the context of implementing the demutualisation of the Exchange in accordance with the P2SK Law,” he said.
For context, the demutualisation of the IDX is a mandate of the P2SK Law, one provision of which stipulates that PT BEI may be owned by three state institutions: the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), Bank Indonesia (BI), and the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara Indonesia).
Previously, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Danantara Indonesia, Pandu Sjahrir, said that his party is still in discussions with the OJK regarding the process of acquiring equal ownership in the IDX.
“Yes, our demutualisation is still in process, both with the OJK and with the Exchange’s Board of Directors. God willing, it can be completed within the next few months,” said Pandu.
Regarding the share ownership portion in the IDX, Pandu said that this is also still being discussed by Danantara, and the information will be conveyed to the public shortly. “We will share the details with everyone soon. We are currently communicating well with both the OJK and the Exchange,” Pandu said.
He explained that Danantara’s ownership of the IDX will be carried out through PT Danantara Investment Management (DIM), with the share purchase forming part of Danantara’s investment.
