Iduladha to Fall on 27 May, Government Announces After Isbat Hearing
The government, through the Isbat hearing of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), has determined that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri will fall on Monday, 18 May 2026, and Iduladha on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
The decision was announced by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, in a press conference after the Isbat hearing held behind closed doors at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (17/5).
βIt has been agreed that 1 Zulhijah 1447 H will fall on Monday, 18 May 2026, so 10 Zulhijah or Iduladha will be on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,β said Nasaruddin.
The Isbat hearing was also attended by representatives of Islamic mass organizations such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Nahdlatul Ulama, and Muhammadiyah.
Quoting from the Kemenag website, the Isbat hearing was held to discuss and decide on a decision based on monitoring the new moon for Zulhijah 1447 H at 88 points spread across Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah uses the Wujudul Hilal criteria to determine the beginning of the Hijri month.
Based on Maklumat Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah Number 2/MLM/1.0/E/2025 released in Yogyakarta on 22 September 2025, PP Muhammadiyah determined that 1 Zulhijah 1447 H will fall on Monday Kliwon, 18 May 2026.
Thus, the Day of Arafah (9 Zulhijah) will coincide with Tuesday Pon, 26 May 2026, and Eid al-Adha (10 Zulhijah) will be celebrated on Wednesday Wage, 27 May 2026.
