Idul Fitri Reflection: Legislator Urges Strengthening Solidarity Amid Economic Pressures

Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDI Perjuangan faction, Harris Turino, delivered a profound message ahead of Idul Fitri 1447 H. Amid challenging economic conditions, the legislator from Electoral District of Central Java IX (Brebes, Tegal, Slawi) stressed the importance of maintaining the flame of hope and strengthening social solidarity.

Harris acknowledged that this year’s Lebaran celebrations are overshadowed by financial burdens felt directly by lower-income communities. Rising prices of staple goods and shrinking business opportunities represent a bitter reality that many families must face.

“Many families feel that economic life is not going well. The prices of necessities feel increasingly burdensome, and business opportunities are not easy. Some of our brothers and sisters even have to struggle hard just to ensure the kitchen keeps burning,” said Harris in his official statement on Tuesday (24/3).

However, Harris emphasised that behind these difficulties, the meaning of Idul Fitri becomes even deeper. According to him, Lebaran is not merely a celebration of victory after a month of fasting, but a moment to strengthen each other amid tough situations.

He explained that Ramadan worship has taught patience, self-control, and empathy towards limitations. These values should be implemented post-fasting to help communities affected by economic conditions.

“Ramadan trains our empathy so that we do not close our eyes to the difficulties of others. Idul Fitri should not only be a moment for mutual forgiveness, but also for strengthening social solidarity,” he continued.

Harris is optimistic that Indonesia has strong resilience to rise from difficult times. He believes that the nation’s greatest strength lies not only in economic indicators, but in the spirit of gotong royong and mutual care among the people.

Harris called on all elements of the nation to shape the future with a foundation of integrity. Hard work accompanied by honesty and concern for the people is seen as the main key to national progress.
