JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta police precinct deployed 499
police officers to safeguard security during the commemoration of
the Islamic Day of Sacrifice (Idul Adha) yesterday.

Col. Edi Darnadi, head of the police precinct, told reporters
that the 499 officers were posted at 59 mosques used for the Idul
Adha prayer, 26 major shopping centers and 53 amusement centers.

Edi said that not all mosques in the North Jakarta area were
served by police officers due to the lack of personnel.

"The police officers were on duty only at mosques with large
congregations," Edi was quoted by Antara as saying. (hhr)
