Idul Adha Reflection: Total Submission in Transcendental Rituals
Perhaps the biggest problem of modern humans is not that they lack a God. The real issue is that humans often place themselves in a position that should belong solely to God. Humans want to determine everything, control everything, seek praise, be followed, and become the centre of their own lives. Unconsciously, the ego slowly transforms into a new idol in modern life. This is perhaps why Idul Adha always brings lessons that are both harsh and soothing: humans will never be whole until they learn to be servants—not of other humans, power, money, or popularity, but of Allah. These lessons are distilled profoundly in the Hajj rituals.
