Idul Adha holiday: Tegal Station records 7,043 passengers in single day
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 4 Semarang recorded a surge in passengers at Tegal Station during the Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah holiday period coinciding with the weekend. A total of 29,545 passengers were served between 27-31 May 2026.
Passenger peak occurred on Saturday (30 May) with 7,043 passengers, comprising 3,655 boardings and 3,388 alightings. This was the highest daily figure during the Idul Adha holiday period.
Luqman Arif, KAI Daop 4 Semarang’s Public Relations Manager, stated that the passenger increase reflects high public mobility during the extended holiday. “The weekend surge demonstrates strong public movement, particularly for family visits and tourism. Rail remains the primary choice due to its reliability and comfort,” he said in a statement on Sunday (31 May).
Detailed figures show 5,774 passengers at Tegal Station on Wednesday (27 May), including 1,792 boardings and 3,982 alightings. Thursday (28 May) saw 5,071 passengers, with 2,776 boardings and 2,295 alightings.
Friday (29 May) recorded 5,850 passengers, comprising 3,196 boardings and 2,654 alightings. After the peak on Saturday, Sunday (31 May) saw 5,807 passengers, with 3,098 boardings and 2,709 alightings.
REGULAR TRAIN SERVICES
To support public travel needs, KAI Daop 4 Semarang operated 33 regular train services and handled 73 passing trains daily across its operational area. Additionally, one extra train service, the Argo Anjasmara, was deployed. Overall, the operator provided 16,624 seats daily during the Idul Adha holiday period.
Luqman noted that increased public mobility typically occurs during religious holidays coinciding with weekends. He added that rail remains a preferred transport mode due to its time efficiency, comfort, and punctuality.
Popular destinations included Jakarta via Pasar Senen and Gambir stations, Surabaya’s Pasar Turi, Solo’s Balapan, and Purwokerto.
The most popular train services were Kaligung, Kamandaka, Joglosemarkerto, and Menoreh.
HIGHEST PASSENGER VOLUMES
KAI also recorded the top three stations by passenger volume in Daop 4 Semarang from 27-31 May 2026. Semarang Tawang Station led with 68,520 passengers, followed by Semarang Poncol with 54,361, and Tegal Station with 29,545.
KAI Daop 4 Semarang urged passengers to plan travel in advance and book tickets via the Access by KAI app, official KAI website, or other authorised sales channels. Customers were also advised to arrive at stations at least 30 minutes before departure.
“KAI Daop 4 Semarang is committed to providing safe, comfortable, and reliable transport services to support public mobility, especially during the Idul Adha 1447 H holiday and weekend period,” Luqman said.
