Idul Adha 2026 to be Held Simultaneously, Potential for Six-Day Long Weekend

The Indonesian government has determined that Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah will fall on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. This determination means that next year’s Eid al-Adha holiday has the potential to become a six-day long weekend, provided that the public takes additional leave on Friday, 29 May 2026.

The decision was announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) following the ‘isbat’ session to determine the start of Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar stated that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah has been set for Monday, 18 May 2026.

“Based on the results of hisab (calculation) and hilal (crescent moon) reports, it was agreed that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah falls on Monday, 18 May 2026; therefore, Eid al-Adha falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,” Nasaruddin Umar said when delivering the results of the isbat session in Jakarta on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Friday, 29 May 2026, remains a working day situated between the national holiday and the weekend. If the public takes additional leave on that day, the holiday could extend until Monday, 1 June 2026.

Muhammadiyah had previously determined the date using the Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT) method. Meanwhile, the government established the start of Zulhijah based on the isbat session, which combines the methods of hisab and rukyatul hilal (moon sighting) from 88 monitoring points across Indonesia.

According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the rukyat results showed that the position of the hilal met the MABIMS criteria (the Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore), specifically a minimum hilal height of 3 degrees and an elongation of 6.4 degrees.
