Idul Adha 2026: Religious Affairs Minister Urges Community to Strengthen Sincerity and Compassion

Religious Affairs Minister Professor Nasaruddin Umar extended his Idul Adha 1447 H/2026 M greetings, stating that the occasion encourages the community to reinforce sincerity and compassion. “Amid the dynamics of life we face together, Idul Adha calls us to reaffirm the values of sincerity, compassion, and social responsibility,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. The Ministry of Religious Affairs’ moon-sighting meeting on 17 May 2026 confirmed that 1 Zulhijjah 1447 H falls on 18 May 2026, making Idul Adha 1447 H on 27 May 2026. “The examples of Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail teach that sacrifice is about prioritising greater communal welfare. These values must be embodied in national life,” Nasaruddin said. He explained that the ritual of qurban holds tangible social significance. The distribution of sacrificial meat is not merely symbolic but a concrete expression of compassion, strengthening food and protein security for families, aiding those in need, and contributing to nutritional efforts, including stunting prevention. “The spirit of qurban is a force of togetherness. It drives solidarity, strengthens mutual assistance, and delivers social justice. It is from this simple yet far-reaching compassion that we build the nation,” he added. “Let us embrace Idul Adha as an opportunity to expand its benefits, deepen empathy, and ensure that every act of worship has a positive impact on others,” stated the Grand Imam of Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque.
