President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will not attend Eid prayers together during the observance of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah this year.

Prabowo chose to fly to France early Tuesday (26/5), the day before the Eid celebration on Wednesday (27/5).

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that Prabowo’s official state visit to France was scheduled long in advance, having been planned since last year.

The state visit aims to strengthen strategic ties between Indonesia and France, with both nations already engaged in various strategic collaborations.

“Indonesia currently has numerous super-strategic partnerships with France, and this state visit is expected to further bolster Indonesia’s position in Europe, particularly in France,” Teddy said in a statement.

Teddy added that before the official state visit proceedings, Prabowo will perform Eid prayer and meet with Indonesian citizens at the Indonesian Embassy residence in Paris.

“President Prabowo is scheduled to perform Eid prayer and hold a gathering with Indonesian nationals at the Embassy residence in Paris,” he said.

Prabowo and his delegation arrived at Paris Orly Airport on Tuesday (26/5) at approximately 10:00 local time after a 16-hour flight.

Gibran to Perform Eid Prayer at Istiqlal

Meanwhile, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is scheduled to perform Eid prayer at Istiqlal Mosque today. Several officials are also expected to attend.

Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar said President Prabowo Subianto was initially planned to attend Eid prayers at Istiqlal, but unexpectedly embarked on the state visit to France.

“Clearly, the Vice President and senior national institution leaders will still proceed with their Eid prayer activities at Istiqlal Mosque,” Nasaruddin stated while inspecting preparations at the mosque on Tuesday (26/5).

Nasaruddin added that Istiqlal will be secured from midnight onwards, meaning no visitors will be allowed after that time.

“Paspampres has been deployed. Istiqlal will be secured from midnight; no visitors allowed after that,” he said.

Worshippers will be permitted entry from 4:00 AM. He urged attendees to arrive early due to expected traffic congestion during Eid.

“From 4:00 AM onwards, people can enter, and I urge all worshippers to come early as Eid usually causes traffic jams,” Nasaruddin said.
