Idul Adha 2026 Offers Potential for Six-Day Holiday Stretch

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The public could enjoy an extended holiday period in the last week of May 2026 as Eid al-Adha 1447 AH coincides with Vesak Day and Pancasila Day on 1 June 2026. If employees take additional leave, the holiday stretch could extend to six consecutive days. According to the Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) No. 1497 of 2025, No. 2 of 2025, and No. 5 of 2025, the government has designated Wednesday, 27 May 2026 as the national holiday for Eid al-Adha 1447 AH. Thursday, 28 May 2026 has been set as a communal holiday for Eid al-Adha. This is followed by the weekend of Saturday, 30 May and Sunday, 31 May 2026, which coincides with Vesak Day 2570 BE. The holiday sequence is then continued by Pancasila Day on Monday, 1 June 2026, which is a national holiday. The following details the holiday schedule for the week: Meanwhile, the government, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), and Muhammadiyah have agreed that Eid al-Adha 1447 AH falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, determined Eid al-Adha based on the rukyatul hilal (moon sighting) for the start of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH held on Sunday (17/5/2026). The Central Leadership of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) also confirmed the same date based on moon sighting results in various regions. Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah had previously set Eid al-Adha 1447 AH on Wednesday Wage, 27 May 2026 using the global hisab (calculation) method of the Unified Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT).
