Idul Adha 2026 Determination Session to be Held Today: Here are the Crescent Moon Observation Points in Jakarta

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) will hold a session to determine the start of Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijriah or Idul Adha 2026 today, Sunday (17/5/2026).

The Idul Adha determination session will be held at the H.M. Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs RI, Central Jakarta.

Director of Islamic Affairs and Sharia Guidance at Kemenag, Arsad Hidayat, said that the session involves various elements, starting from BMKG, BRIN, the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Islamic organisations, to astronomy experts and academics.

“The determination session is a joint forum to combine the results of calculations and crescent moon observations in order to determine the start of Dzulhijjah 1447 H accurately and accepted by all Muslims in Indonesia,” said Arsad, quoted by Kompas.com from the official website of Kemenag RI, Sunday.

Arsad said that crescent moon observation points are carried out to make the results of the observations more accurate and can be used as a basis for determination in the session.

“Crescent moon monitoring is carried out extensively in various regions of Indonesia so that the observational results obtained are even more accurate and can be used as a basis for decision-making in the determination session,” he said.
