Idrus Marham Praises Kapolri's Performance in Handling 2026 Eid Exodus: Traffic Controlled, Accidents Decrease
Jakarta – Deputy General Chairman of the Golkar Party, Idrus Marham, expressed appreciation for the performance of National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo and his team in overseeing the Eid al-Fitr exodus and return flows in 2026. He assessed that this year’s traffic management ran effectively, with public mobility remaining controlled amid the surge in movements. “I certainly extend my appreciation to the National Police Chief, particularly the Traffic Corps Chief and all personnel on duty, for their hard work in escorting the 2026 Eid exodus and return flows,” Idrus stated in his remarks on Thursday, 2 April 2026. According to Idrus, this success is inseparable from the National Police Chief’s role as the primary controller of the national security system, capable of coordinating all levels down to the regional units. He noted that every issue in the field could be quickly consolidated and resolved promptly and decisively. “The National Police Chief has successfully acted as a sort of ‘remote control’ in the police security system. Every dynamic in the regions can be immediately coordinated and handled well, including when field issues arise,” he said. According to Idrus, the smooth Eid exodus and return in 2026 was supported by high public awareness during the flows, as well as collective support from all elements of the nation and the Indonesian National Armed Forces. Idrus also highlighted the strategic role of the National Police Traffic Corps in ensuring smooth vehicle flows. In his view, various traffic engineering schemes implemented proved effective in alleviating congestion, particularly on major routes such as the Trans-Java Toll Road and several arterial roads. Based on reports from national media, the vehicle volume during the 2026 exodus period experienced a significant increase compared to the previous year. Data from the National Police Traffic Corps indicates that the total outbound vehicles from the Jabodetabek area reached more than 7.5 million units during the exodus period. Meanwhile, for the return flow, the number of returning vehicles was recorded at around 7.2 million units. Despite the surge, the accident rate actually declined. Preliminary data indicates that the number of traffic accidents during the 2026 Eid period fell by about 12 to 15 percent compared to 2025. This decline was also accompanied by a reduction in fatal casualties. In addition, the implementation of traffic engineering such as contraflow, national one-way, and odd-even systems was deemed a key factor in the success of vehicle flow management. These policies were applied situationally based on real-time field monitoring.
