During the last three years there have been a lot of disasters in various parts of Indonesia. They were caused not only by nature but also differences in religion, ethnicity, politics and so forth in our society.

Presently, the ethnic violence in Sampit and Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, have been the focus of our attention in view of the hundreds of people killed, and the suffering of thousands of refugees including their health problems, lack of security, hunger, poverty and uncertain future.

For the sake of the refugees' safety and well-being, the executive board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) is ready to be of help, particularly in the field of medicine. The board would also like to appeal to all parties to work hand in hand to overcome this human catastophe. We believe, it is incumbent on the government, the House of Representatives, political parties, leaders of our society and all components of the nation to bring an end to this conflict.
