IDF 'TikTok Soldier' Killed in Hezbollah Drone Attack
Tel Aviv — An Israeli Defence Force (IDF) soldier, Sergeant Rotem Yanai (20), was killed and two other soldiers wounded in a Hezbollah drone attack near the Lebanon border on Wednesday (27 May 2026), according to The Cradle. The report states that Yanai died after two drones penetrated IDF’s defence system and struck a military zone.
Yanai was reportedly killed while running for cover, with a second explosion injuring two other soldiers. On social media platform X, Yanai was dubbed a ‘TikTok soldier’ for frequently posting IDF uniformed activities online, including dancing while smoking.
The wave of Hezbollah drone attacks on Wednesday followed concerns from IDF officials about their inability to counter them. In southern Lebanon, Hezbollah drones targeted Israeli military personnel and vehicles.
Israel has intensified aerial strikes and is expanding ground incursions deeper into Lebanon. Deadly escalation followed the IDF’s order to forcibly relocate residents of Tyre’s old city and all southern Lebanon civilians, directing them north towards the Zahrani River.
