The mystery of the legless corpse, suspected to be a victim of mutilation in Pancoran Mas, Depok, West Java, has finally been solved. The victim has been identified as Kunaefi (51), a resident of Cipayung.

“The victim is named Kunaefi, or K (51), a resident of Bojong, Pondok Terong subdistrict, Cipayung district, Depok City,” said Chief of Public Relations at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

Budi Hermanto said Kunaefi was a murder victim whose body was subsequently mutilated. The perpetrator has now been apprehended by the Resmob Sub-Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate at Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

“The perpetrator was captured by the Resmob Sub-Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate at Jakarta Metropolitan Police. He has been identified as Saepul, or SA (26),” he added.

Earlier, Head of Unit 1 of the Resmob Sub-Directorate, Police Commissioner Dimitri Mahendra, confirmed the arrest. According to Dimitri, the perpetrator was caught as he attempted to flee to Pandeglang at around 04.15 Western Indonesia Time in the early morning.

The case began when residents spotted a suspicious sack in the Tanah Merah area of Pancoran Mas on 24 July 2026. At the time, residents assumed the sack contained rubbish.

Separately, the victim’s wife reported to Depok Metro Police on 25 July 2026, stating that her husband had failed to return home.

Discovery of the Mutilated Body in a Sack

The victim’s remains were discovered on Tuesday (4/8) in the afternoon. The mutilated body was found when residents were about to burn the sack, which they believed to contain rubbish.

However, as part of the sack caught fire, it was revealed that the contents were in fact human remains. The discovery was reported to the police and followed up with a crime scene investigation by the Pancoran Mas Sector Police together with the Inafis team from Depok Metro Police.

Armed with the victim’s identification, the missing person report, witness statements and a series of investigative steps, the Resmob Sub-Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate at Jakarta Metropolitan Police succeeded in uncovering the perpetrator’s identity and apprehending him in the Panimbang area of Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
