Identity of Italian Tourist's Snatcher in Bundaran HI Being Investigated

The Jakarta Central Police are conducting an intensive search for the perpetrator who snatched a mobile phone from a foreign national from Italy in the Bundaran HI area, Jakarta Central. The incident involving the foreign tourist occurred on Thursday (14/5) afternoon and was captured by a dashcam belonging to a resident at the scene.

Chief of the Menteng Police, Senior Commissioner Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, confirmed that his team, along with the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Central Police, are working to identify the perpetrator based on evidence found at the scene.

“The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police, assisted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Central Police, are still working to identify the perpetrator,” said Braiel, as reported by Antara on Friday (15/5).

The incident began when the victim was using his mobile phone on the side of the road in the Bundaran HI area. Suddenly, the perpetrator, riding a red motorcycle, approached the victim and immediately snatched the Motorola Neo 60 mobile phone that the victim was holding. The victim tried to chase the perpetrator but unfortunately fell at the scene.

The police have confirmed that they have questioned the victim to strengthen the investigation process. Braiel also requested public support so that this case, which tarnishes the image of security in the capital city, can be resolved quickly.

“We have asked the victim for information. We hope for support so that it can be resolved quickly,” said Braiel.

To date, officers are still examining video recordings from residents and surveillance cameras (CCTV) around Bundaran HI to track the escape route of the perpetrator who used a red motorcycle. (Z-10)
