There are various factors often overlooked by vehicle owners that can affect the efficiency of fuel usage in automatic motorbikes. From riding style, the condition of motor components, to external factors such as road conditions and fuel quality, all can influence how economical or fuel-hungry a vehicle’s fuel consumption is. ‘The dominant factors triggering fuel-inefficient motorcycles are essentially human (rider), motor (components), and the environment,’ Victor told Kompas.com recently. Human factors also play a major role in determining fuel consumption. Riding style, such as how the throttle is used, braking frequency, and the load carried by the rider, can directly affect fuel use. The more aggressive the riding style, usually the more fuel is consumed. ‘So the heavier the vehicle, the more extreme the throttle use, including more frequent braking, the more certain it is that fuel will be wasted. Change your riding style if it remains like that,’ Victor said. Components of the motor that are worn out are often not noticed by riders. ‘Including using a spark plug that is not in good condition, because Indonesians generally rarely replace spark plugs unless there is a major problem, whereas the recommendation is to replace spark plugs every 8,000 km because this will cause the engine to work harder,’ said Victor. External factors or environmental conditions can also affect fuel consumption. From road conditions, air quality, the type of fuel used, to engine oil quality can affect the level of fuel efficiency of the vehicle. ‘The most practical way to prevent motorcycles from being more fuel hungry is to perform regular maintenance visits at official workshops, because with this the condition and performance of the vehicle will always be monitored,’ said Victor. With the vehicle in well-maintained condition and proper riding techniques, fuel consumption of automatic motorbikes can remain efficient and not easily become fuel-inefficient.
