JAKARTA (JP): If you're an alien residing in Jakarta, have your passport, KIM-S and other papers at the ready, for the municipality is launching another one of its operations to survey the foreigner population in the city.

Sudarsono, head of supervision and investigation at the City's Population Affairs Office, said the survey will primarily be carried out door-to-door in the city between Jan. 16 and Feb. 8.

Last year, these operations rounded up a total of 2,193 foreigners whose immigration papers were incomplete. They consisted of 1,446 men and 747 women (including 609 children).

Of those rounded up, 450 were eventually deported, 294 of whom came from Jakarta, Sudarsono told the Antara news agency.

Sudarsono also announced the results of the municipality's identity card operation checking on people living in low cost apartments.

He said many of the low-income residents are still without Jakarta citizenship status.

In West Jakarta, 870 out of 1,706 people living in low-cost apartments had Jakarta IDs compared to North Jakarta, where the figure is 2,712 out of 5,001 people.

The record is better in Central Jakarta where 6,376 out of 7,776 people living in low cost apartments possess Jakarta IDs while 3,750 out of 5,358 people in East Jakarta have theirs. (emb)
