ID checks at discos

BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan: Police have enforced ID checks at the city's night clubs and discotheques to prevent minors from entering.

"We are barring minors to stop them from indulging in an unhealthy environment, including using drugs and drinking alcohol," Balikpapan police chief Lt. Col. Sutarjo said as reported by the Antara news agency.

Last weekend alone, police caught 40 minors trying to enter discotheques, he said.

The operation is part of the current police campaign against crime which also targets possession of weapons and prostitution. (emb)
