Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia is soon to have its own Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange (BMKS), also known as the Indonesia Commodity Exchange (ICOMEX). The inauguration of Icomex is scheduled for today, 17 September 2026.

The Chief Executive of BMKS at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Sarjito, stated that today marks a significant milestone as two Draft OJK Regulations (RPOJK)—concerning both the transition of the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange and its operational management—are to be promulgated.

“September 17, 2026, is a very important day, where the RPOJK regarding the transition of the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange and the RPOJK regarding its management will and must be enacted, and within that framework, the formation of ICOMEX will take place,” said Sarjito during a Hearing (RDP) with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta, as quoted on Wednesday (17/9/2026).

According to Sarjito, the operational permit for the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange is targeted for issuance in January 2027. Once the permit is granted, the OJK will commence its regulatory and supervisory functions over the mineral exchange’s activities.

He added that the inaugural transactions through the Icomex entity are expected to take place on 4 January 2027. With the commencement of these operations, Indonesia will enter a new era in the management of mineral and strategic commodity trading.

Sarjito emphasised that the OJK, alongside various relevant parties, continues to undergo preparations to ensure that the formation and operation of the exchange proceed according to plan. This step is expected to support a more transparent, organised, and supervised governance of mineral and strategic commodity trade.

It is noted that the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange is a mandate of Law Number 4 of 202<0xA0>6 regarding the Amendment to Law Number 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK).

The exchange will be managed under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and is targeted to begin operations on 1 January 2027. This policy follows the formation of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) and the implementation of the single-door export policy previously announced by the government.

As is well known, President Prabowo Subianto intends to establish an Indonesia Reference Price so that the benchmark prices for Indonesia’s export commodities are formed domestically, rather than relying on overseas exchanges.

President Prabowo assessed that for decades, Indonesia has been a major producer of various global commodities but has lacked influence over price formation. According to him, this condition has prevented Indonesia from fully enjoying the added value of its trade.
